Fabric plays a very important role in determining the costs and how well an innerwear will be able to hold its shape even after several washings and wearings. The most common fabrics varieties for innerwear sold in the market are made from cotton and cotton/polyester blends.
PIMA COTTON – Pima cotton is a higher quality long- staple cotton than regular cotton. Materials made from this material will be softer, denser, and more durable than those made from regular cotton.
COMBED COTTON - A yarn that contains long, and even fiber that produces a stronger, finer and smoother effect.
MERCERIZED COTTON – A yarn that has been treated to increase luster and affinity for dyes.
RIBBED FABRIC – Ribbing is a knitting pattern in which knit and purl stitches alternate vertically. Ribbed knit is easy to identify because it has lines (or “ribs”) going up and down the fabric. It is super stretchy.
KNITTED FABRIC - Knit fabrics are usually softer and a bit more breathable than woven fabrics. Because knit fabric is made from one continuous thread (much like the one continuous yarn in your hand knitting), it stretches all over. If a fabric stretches easily in all directions, it’s a knit fabric, which is thicker, heavier, stretchier and softer.
WOVEN FABRIC – It is a textile formed by weaving. It is produced on a loom and made of many threads woven on a warp and a weft. Woven fabrics don’t stretch as easily and tend to be crispier than knitted fabrics. Woven fabric gets a bit of stretch diagonally. It is thinner, lighter, less stretchable and stronger than knit fabric.
VISCOSE – It is a soft fiber also known as viscose rayon. Viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre (meaning that it's made from plant material) more like cotton or linen. Light weight, durable, abrasion resistant ( no pilling ), breathable, highly absorbent, low-cost environmentally friendly fabric .
SPANDEX / LYCRA / ELASTANE - It is a synthetic fibre known for its exceptional elasticity. A benefit of this fabric is its significant strength and elasticity and its ability to return to the original shape after stretching and faster drying than ordinary fabrics.
HOISERY - The term is also used for all types of knitted fabric. Most hosiery garments are made by knitting methods. Modern hosiery is usually tight-fitting by virtue of stretchy fabrics and meshes. Due to its close fit, most hosiery can be worn as an undergarment.
POLYMIDE - Polyamide Fabric is generally sold as nylon in all parts of the world. Nylon is light-weight, but at the same time, a strong fabric, dries up easily and quickly. Nylon is also dirt resistant and is not affected by any chemicals or sweat. Is extremely versatile and though it can stretch a lot, it quickly regains its shape. It is shiny, very durable and does not get damaged easily. It is waterproof and breathable which helps your body wick away moisture when you are exercising.
JACQUARD - Jacquard is a raised design or pattern woven into a fabric as opposed to being printed on the fabric, such as damasks, florals and geometrics. Jacquard weaves have a varying drape ability and durability depending on which fibres are used. A special loom called jacquard loom is employed in the weaving of a figured fabric which has an intricately woven pattern. This fabric is quite often used for making lingerie.
